The Big Picture

The Big Picture is a photoblog. Here's a description from their site:
"The Big Picture is intended to highlight high-quality, amazing imagery - with a focus on current events, lesser-known stories and, well, just about anything that comes across the wire that looks really interesting."

How can you use this in your classroom?

Language Artsw teachers can use photographs for various purposes in the classroom, like for writing prompts, warm-ups, etc. Science, Social Studies and Math teachers can use them for discussing current events and many other ways.

These aren't just high quality stock photos, like on other sites. No, these are high quality, spectacular pieces of art taken by a talented photographers. They are posted here from news stories from all over the world. There are captions to most and all of them will spark lots of conversation. In today's visual world, students will eat these up! You will get a lot of use out of this site.

Remember that normal copyright rules apply. If you're just showing them in your classroom, you're fine, but if you wanted to post them or use them elsewhere, get permission. (or check to see if they are in the public domain)
